Joseph R. Zakhary graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan with a double concentration in Classical Civilization and Studies in Religion. While there, he earned multiple academic honor and awards, including induction into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Mr. Zakhary graduated from Boston University School of Law with a focus on Health Care Law, and was a contributor to the American Journal of Law and Medicine. He was admitted to the NJ Bar in 2004 and the NY Bar in 2006. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, the Eastern District of New York, and the Southern District of New York.
Mr. Zakhary has a broad range of business and legal experience, and currently concentrates his practice in personal injury, appeals, and Constitutional matters. He has successfully represented school districts and municipalities against discrimination claims based upon the U.S. Constitution, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Housing Amendments Act, and NJ Law Against Discrimination. Mr. Zakhary also has extensive knowledge of premises liability and construction litigation, including the scope of additional insured coverage, third-party practice, and claims for contractual indemnification and breach of agreement to procure insurance. He is also intimately aware of risk transfer practices, having drafted indemnification and insurance-procurement provisions of commercial leases, asset transfer contracts, and third-party vendor contracts. As part of his appellate practice, Mr. Zakhary has drafted several briefs on topics as wide-ranging as defamation, employment discrimination, and railroad crossings, and has presented oral argument before the New Jersey Appellate Division. He has won all those appeals.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Zakhary has been named a Top Attorney in Construction Law by SJ Magazine and a Rising Star by New Jersey Super Lawyers Magazine.
